Leonid Brezhnev (1906 – 1982), general secretary of the Communist Party and Chariman of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union, during his official visit to Poland  of 19th – 22th July 1974. At that time Poland was celebrating the 30 anniversary of its independence after the liberation from the Nazis. However, it was not exactly independent because it had become a satellite state of the Soviet Union . The first free elections were held in 1990.
